Where Am I Really Going?

Are you just out of high school, or maybe even a year or two into college? Did you have to move on into the work force and forget about furthering your education? Do you know where you are going, do you have a plan? Goal? Dream?

I'm writing this blog because I'm 45 years young and still wondering what I want to be when I grow up. Thing is I didn't have a lot of direction or guidance growing up and when it came time to leave high school, college wasn't an option for me, or so I thought. Though for me it would've been a tragic debt in my life and for all I know I would still be there trying to figure it out. But I lived in a survival box I didn't know I could come out of or that there was anything else in the world to do besides what I pigeonholed myself into for years and years.

I didn't know that I really was smart. I didn't know I had anything to give to anyone or the world. I didn't know that there were other options for me out there. I thought I had to work and survive and that's all I knew how to do. I never even really had the thought that I had things I might like to to. I just had to get out because my life was hell and I ran for the hills. After that, life just swirled me down it's dirty river through the banks and eddies and I took whatever came my way.

My heart in this blog is to speak something important into your life and breath life into your life. You may have come from a messed up place. Or maybe you are being driven by parents who want what THEY want for your life and not what you are destined, gifted and impassioned to do. Both scenarios are frustrating and in 20 years down the road you'll be sitting in a place not doing any of those things or totally hating your life and trying to figure out how you got there and what you are supposed to do now. Because for some things, 20 years is too late.

The problem with being young and fresh out of school is that you are sure in your own wise minds that you know it all. You have it all figured out and you have this tunnel vision of how wonderful you think it will all become. You don't want to listen to the wisdom of those who have gone before you and made the mistakes and paid the price. You think you know better than someone who has had two, three or even four times the life experience that you have and that somehow you can do it better, different and we are all just a bunch of old idiots. But in 20 years, you'll remember these words when you realize you really don't know anything and nothing was as it seemed.

The important thing for you to know now is that you ARE gifted, talented and have MUCH to give. If you feel that you are in a box, the box is a lie. There are ways and at your age you have much energy to put into it all. If you are wasting your life partying, living like you have forever. Get over it and get over yourself because believe me when I tell you the time flies very quickly and before you know it, it's too late.

I also didn't know that there was a God who created me, loves me and had a wonderful plan for my life and you need to know that above all other things. He created you, loves you and He made you for a purpose. His ways are higher and His thoughts are higher and our wisdom is foolishness to Him who is ALL wise. I wish I would've known this and understood it and accepted it when I was younger. But OH I was so wise, I had done it all, seen it all and knew exactly how it would all turn out and no one could tell me different. Wish I could go back and knock myself in the head! :-)

So seek first to know His truth. His Truth is in His Son Jesus, who He sent to die for our sins on the cross. We can't get to God unless we go through Him, even if we believe God exists, we can't ever know Him unless we come through Jesus. Which means surrendering your life and exchanging all that you are for all that HE is. He is life, love, peace, truth, joy and a hope that is for real. Not a worldly maybe it will or maybe it won't happen kind of hope. But a hope that is for real, one we can count on. God is a loving Father and maybe you never knew what that was in your life. God is not like a man. We are created in His image but we are not Him. He is not the universe, He created the universe and is a person who wants to talk with you, walk with you, take care of you, love you.

Then seek His perfect will for your life. He has something spectacular for you to do, that's why He gave you the gifts, talents and skills that you have. He may have even lead you through the education you now have so that later He can use it to bless others. That's why you are here. First to have a real relationship with Him and second to be a blessing to those around you.

So GO FOR IT! GO FOR IT ALL! Don't look back. Yes, you have to honor your parents, so if they are pushing you into something you hate or somewhere you don't want to go, you have to get on your knees and give it to the Lord. He will work all things out for you. Trusting Him is our life and what He requires. Sometimes it looks like we are heading in a different direction than we thought but He will bring us back around. He wants to do the impossible through you.

If you think you've gone down the wrong path, ask God for forgiveness and He will give it to you, that's what Jesus did, He brought us true loving forgiveness for all that we have done. He will set your path right.

I pray the best for your life and I pray that I will see you in heaven when we are done here on this earth! Bless you and know that you have much to give and others need what you have and if you are still living and breathing on this earth, it isn't over!
